Woman Convicted In Distracted-Driving Case Leading To 2 Deaths

If your loved one was killed by someone who was driving while talking on a cellphone or texting to someone while driving, you’d want him or her to pay for his or her crimes. You would want to be compensated, and you’d also want to know that this kind of accident won’t happen again.

The family involved in this case is upset, because they don’t feel the punishment has fit the crimes committed. The woman, who allegedly became distracted by her cellphone while she was driving, has been convicted in the case where two people were killed. According to the news, a 43-year-old man and 53-year-old man were killed when the woman struck them in California.

The men’s widows are shocked by the fact that the woman who caused the accident with distracted driving is only receiving a misdemeanor for manslaughter, even though they believe she should receive a felony based on police reports. The authorities reported that the woman first struck the 53-year-old, then over-corrected her vehicle and hit the younger man as he rode his motorcycle. The police indicated on their report that the woman had been distracted by her cellphone at the time of the crash.

Initially, the police recommended that the woman be charged with felony vehicular manslaughter, but misdemeanor charges were filed. It’s been claimed that there was evidence that the woman was not on her phone at the time of the crash, but she had been minutes before the incident. Because of that, she can’t be charged for being distracted when it’s unclear if she was.
