Potentially Suicidal Wrong-Way Driver Kills 1 In California

Two cars collided in California, on I-5, and one of those vehicles was driving the wrong direction on the interstate.

The wrong-way driver was a 28-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of a gray Chevrolet Impala. The other driver was a 29-year-old man driving a maroon 2012 Honda Accord.

It appears that the Impala was heading the right way on I-5, but the driver then steered the vehicle through the median and intentionally drove into the wrong lanes. That’s when she hit the Accord; pictures from the scene show a mangled maroon vehicle with a front end that is unrecognizable, completely destroyed all the way back to the rear doors.

The man died. The woman lived, just breaking her leg. Emergency teams brought her to Mercy Medical Center.

Whenever there is a wrong-way accident, people often question how it could have happened. There are so many signs and the roadways are designed specifically to prevent these types of accidents.

In this case, the reason may be simple. Per the California Highway Patrol, the young woman might have been attempting suicide. They did note that the investigation is not yet complete and their opinions could change, but that’s one reason they’re looking into at this time.

The man who died had two boys, ages 4 and 2. He was married and his wife is pregnant, expecting to give birth in January to a third child.
