Four people were hospitalized after a recent crash on Interstate 15 in Wildomar, which is near Temecula in Riverside County. Three of them, including a child who was ejected from one of the vehicles, reportedly suffered major injuries.
The crash that sent two vehicles rolling down an embankment off the freeway occurred on the afternoon on Sept. 12. The vehicles ended up in a neighborhood. One came to rest in someone’s yard.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a driver going southbound on I-15 in the fast lane lost control of his car. A CHP officer says that witnesses say he “crossed all traffic lanes” before striking a sports utility vehicle driven by a woman. Two children were riding in the back seat of the SUV.
The crash sent both vehicles about 50 feet down a steep embankment. One of the children in the SUV was thrown out of the vehicle. The CHP officer says that “it is under investigation whether that child was properly restrained in that seat.” It hasn’t been reported what caused the driver of the other vehicle to lose control and swerve across two lanes.
Driving the freeways of Southern California can be challenging under the best of circumstances. Serious crashes can cause life-altering and fatal injuries in the blink of an eye. Regardless of what charges or traffic citations an at-fault driver may face, victims of that driver’s negligence or recklessness have the right to seek compensation to help cover medical costs, loss of income and other expenses and damages. This can’t undo what happened, but it can help families heal and move forward.
